This thrilling 4×4 adventure begins as we board the ferry to cross into Morocco, leaving behind Spain and entering a world of desert landscapes, historic cities, and off-road challenges. After a short trip across the Straits of Gibraltar, we complete the border formalities and head for our first campsite to begin our Moroccan journey.

The next day, we travel south along the motorway toward Fes, then continue on to Azrou, where we set up camp for the night. As we leave camp, keep an eye out for the famous Barbary monkeys that roam the region, before heading to Boudnib to kick off the off-road section of the adventure.

After refueling in Boudnib, we venture into the Empty Quarter, skirting the Algerian border, where we’ll encounter a significant military presence. This remote and harsh landscape marks the beginning of our desert journey as we push toward the iconic Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Here, we’ll spend a couple of nights. Depending on the timing of our arrival, we may have the opportunity to drive the dunes in our 4x4s or take a camel ride to the top of the dunes to watch a stunning desert sunset. A full day will be dedicated to exploring this unique and captivating area.

Leaving the dunes behind, we continue south toward Zagora, passing by Jebel Mrakib, an ancient mountain ridge known for its fossils. If time permits, we’ll stop to explore the fossils in the area before heading further south. From Zagora, we follow the Algerian border for a short stretch, then veer inland to pass by Jebel Bani, also known as “the desert gardens.” We continue on to Lake Iriki and head toward Forum Zugid.

Our journey then takes us toward Tata, where we cross boulder-strewn riverbeds as we traverse the rugged desert terrain, and then onwards to Taliouine. From Taliouine, we slowly make our way toward Marrakech, where we will spend two nights. Marrakech, a city rich in culture, history, and vibrant markets, offers a chance to immerse yourself in its sights, sounds, and smells. Explore the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the Koutoubia Mosque, and wander through the bustling souks.

On the final day, we head back north, making our way to the top of Morocco to catch the ferry back across the Straits of Gibraltar, marking the end of this unforgettable 4×4 overland journey through the heart of Morocco.
